CVO, Circolo Vela Orta, Orta Novara, Italy

The project was designed to meet the needs of a small sailing club, taking the various urban planning and geographical restrictions of the available area into account. The “Circolo Vela Orta” club has been active for well over 60 years and is located on the banks of the small and picturesque Lake Orta. Two sets of figures stand out: a rectangular area measuring 23 m x 9 m (207 m² in total) was available, with the enclosed space taking up about half that area (104 m²) and offering approximately 300 m². Careful evaluation of the spatial arrangement by the designer (an architect as well as a skilled sailor) in line with user needs has allowed the creation of a fully functional arrangement which optimises every square metre of the building. The facility consists of two changing rooms of the same size and layout (changing area + two showers + toilet) for approximately 8 – 10 persons; one sail locker; one toilet for the disabled; the club house itself, approx. 30 m², with a small kitchen and office.
