Efficient Expansion of Living Space in Munich with fermacell® Therm25™ flooring elements

The fermacell™ underfloor heating system combines load distribution and heating in one.
In Munich, an existing wooden building is being extended to provide modern living comfort with dry screed elements and integrated pipework for underfloor heating. Exploding rents and a housing shortage are making the housing market in Munich particularly tight. A campaign to add storeys to residential buildings is intended to provide a remedy without the need for additional building land. The extension of an apartment block in Maxvorstadt adds two storeys to the original three-storey building.

The planners chose the fermacell™ underfloor heating system from James Hardie. To meet the sound insulation requirements, the fermacell™ honeycomb insulation system was first installed, which is specifically designed for wooden beam ceilings. After mixing with the fermacell™ binder, the honeycomb fill could be elastically bound and pumped into the upper floors using a screed pump. With variable layer thicknesses from 10 mm to 200 mm, the sound insulation can be adjusted. The material was applied to the wooden beam ceiling and leveled to 75 mm, reducing sound transmission. The surface is walkable after 12 hours and ready for covering after 24 hours. Subsequently, mineral wool and fermacell® fiber gypsum boards were laid, followed by the fermacell® Therm25™ underfloor heating elements.
