fermacell® flooring elements with wood fibre insulation combine high load-bearing capacity with effective impact and airborne sound insulation in floor structures. The integrated wood fibre insulation dampens noise and is made from renewable raw materials. As a dry floor structure, the elements can be walked on quickly and are ready for covering in no time – ensuring efficient construction processes and tested floor structures with defined sound and fire protection.

fermacell® flooring elements meet the demanding requirements of modern interior construction.
Enhanced fire safety: Tried and tested for 60 minutes in the case of timber-beamed ceilings without additional layers in the event of the ceiling surface catching fire. By installing additional structures beneath the fermacell® flooring elements, 90 or 120 minutes feasible – ideal for meeting higher fire safety requirements in commercial construction.
Quieter living spaces: Achieves 63 dB airborne sound insulation and 53 dB impact sound performance - exceeding Building Regulations requirements by up to 18 dB.
ㅤSuitable for damp locations: Safe to use in Damp rooms in water exposure classes. Suitable for use in bathrooms, kitchens or utility rooms in residential and commercial buildings, for example.
ㅤCompatible with underfloor heating and floor coverings: Ideal for Hot-water underfloor heating systems.
Suitability for almost all standard surface finishes such as tiles, parquet, designer flooring or carpet.
fermacell® flooring elements with wood fibre insulation are easy and efficient to install and help to reduce construction times in interior fit-out projects. The dry layered construction speeds up the time it takes for the floor to be ready for covering and ensures that installation processes on site remain clear and predictable.
The compact components are quick and easy to lay – and ready for flooring after just one day. Installation takes place without introducing any additional moisture into the structure.
Suitable for uneven or delicate subfloors in older buildings, without the need for complex levelling work.
Low profile heights starting at 20 mm can be combined with significantly lower weight. This makes it easier to use in applications where there is limited headroom and load capacity.
Wood fibre, a bio-based insulation material, is vapour-permeable and helps regulate humidity. As a result, this dry-lay system helps create a comfortable indoor climate.

Insulation materials used for additional thermal and sound insulation, as well as for levelling the surface beneath fermacell® screed elements, must be approved by fermacell® James Hardie®. Our approved insulation materials possess the necessary strength and are tailored to the properties of the screed elements and the required load-bearing capacity. A list of suitable insulation materials can be found here.
Further information on impact sound insulation can be found in the handbook "fermacell™ Floor Systems – Planning and Installation" and in our list of insulation materials. For exposed timber beam ceilings, the fermacell™ honeycomb insulation system is recommended, amongst other solutions, for effective impact sound improvement.

As wooden floorboards can continue to dry out and shrink, and there is also a risk of knots falling out, a vapour-permeable underlay must be laid before the levelling compound is applied. In the area of the floorboards, a vapour-permeable underlay should be considered before installing the levelling compound, if necessary. To reduce impact noise, the installation of 30 mm fermacell®® We recommend screed elements containing wood fibre (2 E 31).

To achieve good airborne and impact sound insulation performance in relatively lightweight, multi-layered timber-beam ceilings, the following options are available:
Increase in the mass per unit area of the rough floor (e.g. using the fermacell™ honeycomb insulation system)
Reducing the stiffness of the impact sound insulation board, e.g. screed elements containing wood fibre or mineral fibre (whilst ensuring that the dry screed retains sufficient compressive strength)
Decoupling the suspended ceiling from the wooden beams (e.g. using a spring-loaded suspension system)
Cavity insulation using fibrous insulation materials (e.g. mineral fibre) in the area of the suspension and between the wooden beams

Impact sound insulation boards made from wood fibre are significantly stronger than those made from mineral fibre. They retain their strength even when subjected to pressure or walked on during transport, storage and installation.
With mineral fibre impact sound insulation boards, there is a risk that the stabilising adhesive structure of this material will be irreversibly damaged when subjected to stress – for example, from foot traffic during installation – thereby compromising its strength. However, when installed with due care (e.g. using load-distribution boards made of gypsum fibre during installation), mineral fibre boards offer slightly better sound insulation. Mineral wool insulation materials are non-combustible and contribute positively to fire resistance.
In the case of fermacell® panels laminated with mineral fibre at the factory® The use of screed elements reduces the risk of damage, as there is no direct foot traffic during installation.
