fermacell® Firepanel A1 fire protection boards are non-combustible fibre gypsum boards with an A1 classification (non-combustibility) for high fire safety requirements. They serve as fire protection, building and damp-proof boards all in one.
High fire resistance meets fibre gypsum board
fermacell® Firepanel A1 is a further development of the original fibre gypsum boards: some of the paper fibres have been replaced by non-combustible mineral fibres. As a result, the board achieves an A1 classification (non-combustibility) whilst retaining the strength, stability and homogeneous structure typical of fibre gypsum boards.
Firepanel A1 is designed for drywall systems where walls and ceilings must meet high fire safety requirements. In interior applications, it can be used for, amongst other things, partition walls with metal stud frames, shaft walls and cladding systems, as well as suspended ceilings. A single board type can cover applications in interior finishing, fire protection and damp rooms.

Multi-layer panelling can be fixed without affecting the underlying structure; it is not essential to fill the joints between the boards.

Fermacell® gypsum fibreboards and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O may be used as non-combustible boards behind freestanding stoves, provided that the clearance specified in the stove’s approval documentation for combustible surfaces is maintained.
Areas that are not visible or are enclosed, such as those behind stoves, inside fireplaces and tiled stoves, or the covers of stoves, fireplaces and tiled stoves, must not be constructed using gypsum-based boards. fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O boards may also be used in these areas, but do not fulfil the functions of fire protection boards.

No. fermacell® fibre gypsum boards consist of 80% gypsum and 20% paper fibres made from recycled waste paper. After water has been added, these two raw materials are pressed under high pressure into sturdy boards without the use of any additional binders.
The composition and manufacturing process have not changed significantly since the panels were invented in 1970: In the case of gypsum, the natural gypsum previously used has been partially replaced by environmentally friendly flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) and recycled gypsum, whilst cellulose-based substitute fibres have been added to the paper fibres. In fermacell® Firepanel boards, some of the cellulose fibres are replaced by rock wool fibres to achieve a higher level of fire protection.
The fermacell™ joint filler has also always been manufactured without fibres (which may contain asbestos). The reinforcing agent used here is methylcellulose (the base material in wallpaper paste).
All other products were developed and launched on the market after 1980. By that time, asbestos had already been banned.
