Hybrid construction

The best of both worlds

In addition to traditional timber construction, a new hybrid construction method has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. This approach makes targeted use of the advantages of both solid and timber construction. Particularly in multi-storey construction, this method offers significant advantages in terms of structural stability, fire safety and sound insulation. For instance, the load-bearing reinforced concrete frame offers particular benefits in terms of structural stability and sound insulation, especially in multi-storey buildings.

Two materials. One project. Maximum efficiency.

Projects that require good predictability, a short construction period and a high degree of prefabrication call for hybrid timber construction. Hybrid timber construction thrives on the intelligent combination of the strengths of different materials.

This is precisely where fermacell® fibre gypsum boards really come into their own. When cladding the façade structure in timber-hybrid construction, they prove to be the ideal complement to the timber substructure thanks to their timber-like material and working properties.

Why fermacell® makes the difference

TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE

Efficient prefabrication for the highest standards of build quality

Off-site prefabrication, which is not dependent on weather conditions, enables precise planning, consistently high build quality and particularly rapid installation of the building components on site.

High stability for load-bearing timber structures

Cladding with fermacell® fibre gypsum boards provides timber components with high load-bearing capacity and rigidity, whilst also offering high mechanical strength.

Reliable, high-quality fire protection

Depending on their construction, fermacell® fibre gypsum boards offer fire resistance up to F120 and, as a non-combustible building material classified as A2-s1,d0, meet the highest safety requirements.

OPTIMISED CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

Rapid construction progress with no waiting times

Thanks to the simple and dry installation of fermacell® fibre gypsum boards, subsequent trades can get straight to work, which significantly reduces construction time and costs.

No acclimatisation period required

Whilst other building materials require several days to acclimatise, fermacell® fibre gypsum boards can be installed immediately upon delivery – with no waiting time.

Slim system structures

The highest sound insulation standards with the thinnest possible wall thickness – more living space and optimal insulation performance thanks to the wall cavity.

Products for timber-hybrid construction

Hybrid construction places high demands on materials in terms of stability, fire resistance and sound insulation. At the same time, efficient prefabrication is becoming increasingly important. Solutions with well-balanced structural properties form the basis for this.

Sustainable and recyclable

In addition, the boards offer beneficial building biology properties, as they are manufactured from natural raw materials – gypsum, recycled paper and water – without the use of adhesives. With their Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), they meet key criteria for common building certification schemes such as BREEAM and LEED. Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver certification assesses a company’s commitment to material safety and recyclability and confirms that fermacell® fibre gypsum boards have been specifically designed for closed-loop material cycles.
