fermacell® screed panels with EPS insulation
fermacell® screed panels with a polystyrene insulation layer are designed to provide effective thermal insulation in dry, relatively lightweight floor structures. The dry screed panels are fitted with 20 mm or 30 mm They are fitted with a layer of extruded polystyrene (EPS) on the underside and enhance living comfort by providing a warm floor underfoot. The quick, dry installation ensures the floor is ready for covering in no time, which is particularly useful for renovation projects and where interior fit-out times are tight.
fermacell® screed panels with EPS insulation are quick and easy to install and help to reduce construction times in interior fit-out projects. The dry, relatively lightweight construction ensures the floor is ready for finishing quickly – which is particularly useful for renovation projects and tight schedules.
Easy and quick to lay thanks to the lightweight, easy-to-handle tiles – ready for flooring after just one day.
No additional construction moisture – no drying times and a swift handover to the next trades.
Facilitates smooth installation processes thanks to its ease of handling and straightforward installation.
Suitable for projects that prioritise rapid construction progress and clearly structured workflows.
Focus on thermal insulation – dry screed with EPS
High thermal insulation performance in the floor structure: The EPS insulation layer provides excellent thermal insulation and is particularly suitable for floor structures above unheated rooms, as well as for energy-efficient refurbishments.
Low weight for lightweight structures: Its low weight per unit area makes it suitable for use where load-bearing capacity is limited, particularly in existing buildings and during renovation projects.
Designed for thermal insulation applications: Suitable for floor constructions where thermal insulation is a priority, e.g. on the ground floor or for underfloor heating systems with a low installation height.
Fire safety as part of the overall system: The fire resistance rating is determined by the complete floor and ceiling structure. F 60, F 90 or F 120 classifications can be achieved with suitable additional layers or ceiling structures.

When bonding a third layer of fermacell™ over the entire surface® Installing gypsum fibreboards on the 2 E 13 (2 E 14) screed element increases the load-bearing capacity to a maximum of AWB 3*, i.e. in corridors and kitchens in hotels, schools and care homes, as well as areas with tables, such as classrooms, restaurants, cafés, etc.

4.0 kN/m²
To improve fire safety, a Class F 60 rating is achievable for timber-beam ceilings without additional layers when the upper surface of the ceiling is exposed to flame, whilst a Class F 90 or F 120 rating is achievable with additional layers beneath the fermacell® screed elements.

FAQ
You can find clear answers to the most frequently asked questions in our FAQ section.
Insulation materials used for additional thermal and sound insulation, as well as for levelling the surface beneath fermacell® screed elements, must be approved by fermacell® James Hardie®. Our approved insulation materials possess the necessary strength and are tailored to the properties of the screed elements and the required load-bearing capacity. A list of suitable insulation materials can be found here.
Further information on impact sound insulation can be found in the handbook "fermacell™ Floor Systems – Planning and Installation" and in our list of insulation materials. For exposed timber beam ceilings, the fermacell™ honeycomb insulation system is recommended, amongst other solutions, for effective impact sound improvement.
Standard formats
Tiles and natural stone slabs with a maximum edge length of 330 mm may generally be used on all fermacell® screed elements.
If impact sound insulation boards made of mineral wool or fermacell® screed elements laminated with mineral wool are used, natural stone or terracotta tiles are not permitted.
Tiles are laid using the thin-bed method on fermacell® gypsum fibre screed panels. When using fermacell™ Flex adhesive, a primer is not required. Tiles can be laid on fermacell® Powerpanel TE using either the thin-bed or medium-bed method. When using fermacell™ Flex Adhesive, a primer (e.g. fermacell™ Deep Primer) is required.
Large-format tiles
fermacell® screed elements are suitable for laying stoneware tiles of any size. Certain specifications must be strictly adhered to during installation. Further information on this can be found in the tile list.
Further necessary information can be found in our handbook: "fermacell®™ Floor Systems – Planning and Installation", as well as in the document: "Installation Guidelines for Tiled Flooring on fermacell Floor Systems". Only approved systems may be used for bonding. Please refer to the same document for further guidance.
fermacell® screed elements are suitable as a substrate for the direct bonding of multi-layer parquet in accordance with DIN EN 13489 (e.g. pre-finished parquet elements) and mosaic parquet in accordance with DIN EN 13488. The latter must be laid in a pattern (e.g. herringbone or cube pattern), as this allows the parquet floor to expand in different directions in the event of swelling.
Mosaic parquet must only be installed in a different direction or using other solid wood species and types of parquet with the adhesive manufacturer’s approval. You can also find information on parquet adhesives in our list of recommendations.
Further information can be found in our handbook: "fermacell® Floor Systems – Planning and Installation".
A variety of resilient floor coverings can be laid over fermacell® screed elements, such as carpet, laminate, cork, PVC, linoleum, elastomer and LVT design flooring.
You can find more detailed information on this in the technical documentation: "Installation guidelines for resilient floor coverings on fermacell™ floor systems".
Thanks to the stepped joint, fermacell® screed elements can be used to create a secure (mechanical) bond even in the area of doorways.
