On the one hand, they must have a high load-bearing capacity; on the other, they must provide long-lasting and reliable protection for the structure against the effects of the weather. At the same time, they should be cost-effective and efficient to install. Our cement-bonded lightweight concrete boards, fermacell® Powerpanel HD and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O, are high-performance solutions that meet precisely these requirements.
fermacell® Powerpanel HD and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O have been specifically developed for use as external wall panels in the external wall cladding of timber-frame constructions. The panels not only perform load-bearing functions, but also provide the necessary bracing for the entire structure.
fermacell® Powerpanel HD can also be used as a direct cladding panel or as a plaster base board. fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O is suitable for use in curtain wall systems and rear-ventilated facades.

Innovative material structure for optimum performance
The exceptional performance of fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O is based on its carefully engineered material composition. It is a cement-bound, glass-fibre-reinforced lightweight concrete panel with a stable sandwich structure. The use of expanded clay or recycled glass foam granules results in a comparatively low weight, which makes on-site installation significantly easier.
At the same time, the integrated reinforcement made of alkali-resistant glass fibres ensures high compressive and flexural strength. This combination makes the panel particularly robust and durable, ensuring that it can withstand even the most demanding conditions.

A key advantage of fermacell® Powerpanel HD and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O is characterised by its high resistance to weathering.
Powerpanel H₂O A hydrophobic top coat reduces capillary moisture absorption and provides reliable protection against moisture penetration. At the same time, the board provides temporary weather protection for up to 6 months in timber construction when used with a suitable jointing technique. Tests on durability, including resistance to hail, are available; however, these are system-dependent and are largely determined by the respective rendering system.
Powerpanel HD owes its moisture resistance to its cement-bonded structure and retains its dimensional stability even when constantly exposed to moisture, whilst its controlled water vapour permeability allows for vapour-permeable constructions.
Both products thus enable wall constructions that protect the building fabric in the long term by regulating moisture levels.
High fire resistance for safe structures
In addition to weather protection, fermacell® Powerpanel HD and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O also offer impressive fire protection properties. Even with a single layer of cladding – depending on the specific construction – Powerpanel HD can achieve fire resistance classes up to F90-B, thereby meeting the requirements for building envelope walls in timber panel construction.
In compact systems, Powerpanel HD, used as a plaster base board, creates non-combustible surfaces and thus plays a key role in ensuring safe, sealed façade structures.
As Powerpanel H₂O is non-combustible, it does not contribute to the fire load of the façade in curtain-wall, rear-ventilated façades, thereby providing additional safety in façade design.
Compatible plastering systems – Greater safety – Greater flexibility
Another advantage is its compatibility with various rendering systems. In collaboration with several manufacturers, tested solutions have been developed for the application of alternative rendering systems on fermacell® Powerpanel HD. Painters, plasterers and stucco finishers can continue to work with their usual systems and ensure long-lasting weather protection for external façades in timber construction that are clad with fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O were carried out.
This provides greater certainty in the planning and execution stages, whilst ensuring a high degree of design flexibility for façades in modern timber construction.
