fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard: Airtight. Efficient. Simple.
fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard With an integrated vapour barrier, they reduce water vapour permeability to such an extent that an additional vapour-barrier layer is not required in an external wall construction. When installed correctly, they ensure an airtight and windproof dry construction.
Gypsum fibreboards with an integrated vapour barrier for airtight wall constructions
fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard is a dense gypsum fibreboard with an integrated vapour barrier on the reverse side. It combines the mechanical strength and fire performance of gypsum fibre with controlled resistance to vapour diffusion. This allows airtight constructions to be achieved when cladding external walls from the inside, without the need for additional vapour barriers.
With an sd-value of > 3 m, fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard is suitable for use as internal panelling or cladding in all typical timber-frame constructions – including external wall constructions with or without an installation layer on the interior side, as well as for external direct cladding or curtain walls.
fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard eliminate the need for separate vapour-retardant layers. This simplifies the installation process and can reduce the amount of work required on site – particularly when cladding external walls in timber construction.
The specially coated reverse side increases the sd-value to such an extent that a separate vapour barrier film is not required.
The panel can be used as stiffening wall cladding in timber construction and is designed to be impact-resistant.
The coating is already applied at the factory. This reduces the amount of installation and adjustment work required on site.
The board is designed for use in timber construction and is suitable for projects with environmental considerations.

FAQ
You can find clear answers to the most frequently asked questions in our FAQ section.
The fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard is a homogeneous, gypsum-bound drywall board containing paper fibres, which is factory-coated with a vapour barrier and has a hydrophobic face. It combines the structural properties of the fermacell® gypsum fibreboard with the building physics function of a vapour barrier. It can be used both as direct cladding and in combination with an installation layer. It is installed in the same way as the fermacell® gypsum fibreboard, using standard tools and woodworking machinery.
The surface finish of the fermacell® Vapor gypsum fibreboard can be achieved by applying a skim coat, paint or render. Tiling is also permitted.
Instructions on how to handle connection details can be found in the manual: "fermacell® and Hardie® Constructions".
fermacell® fibre gypsum products consist of 80% gypsum – a mixture of natural gypsum and flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) gypsum – and 20% paper fibres, which are obtained from waste paper through a recycling process. These two raw materials are processed into a homogeneous mixture and, after the addition of water – without any further binding agents – are pressed under high pressure into stable boards, dried, treated with a water-repellent agent to make them hydrophobic, and cut to the required sizes.
fermacell® fibre gypsum boards do not contain any substances that are harmful to health.
The absence of adhesives means there are no unpleasant odours. The boards and the manufacturing process have been tested by the Rosenheim Institute for Building Biology with regard to healthy living and environmental protection. Due to the excellent results, the fermacell® fibre gypsum boards have been awarded the ‘Tested and recommended by the IBR’ seal of approval. Furthermore, the ECO certificate confirms that they are free from harmful substances.
fermacell® gypsum fibreboards and fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O can be fixed to timber stud frames using staples, nails or fermacell™ drywall screws. For metal stud frames, fermacell™ drywall screws must be used. With gypsum fibreboards, a substructure-neutral “board-to-board” fixing method using staples or drywall screws is also possible. The dimensions of the fasteners, the exact spacing requirements and the consumption rates per m² can be found in the handbook: “fermacell® and Hardie® Products in Timber Construction – Planning and Installation” and in the handbook: “fermacell® Powerpanel H₂O – the Wet Room Board”.
Extremely durable. The panels are moisture-resistant, dimensionally stable and can withstand mechanical stress. A long service life means fewer replacements and therefore a lower environmental impact.
Constructions using fermacell® fibre gypsum products are more sustainable because they meet high standards of fire, sound and structural protection whilst using fewer materials, thereby conserving resources and reducing CO₂ emissions.
